How to increase UK Exports

There is only one good way out of this recession thing, we need to export more. We need to sell more stuff (products and services) to the rest of the world, they pay us and we they get more money to spend. This money then helps us continue to live in one of the best counties in the world (RE: Amazing Olympics 2012).

I don’t think anyone is will disagree with this strategy, however the hard question is how do we do this? Do we need some amazing Quango, a new £200, programme or a new Lord/Minster) Don’t worry I have the answer.

We tell people where to try and sell their products.

Yes it’s that simple.

So how?

Everyday I and many others listen to the news, read the papers and go online to see what is happening in the world. Everyday I learn where NOT to sell my products, currently Syria, Afghanistan and Pakistan (News for 23th Aug 2012).

I am not an arms dealer or supplier to medical services, so have no need or desire to sell into these countries.

I know the news is coordinated in the UK, otherwise why would I get the same news on all channels. When I go to the gym, I have the opportunity to watch three news channels (BBC, ITV and Sky) at the same time and guess what? They are the same, timed to the nearest minute. They cover the same stories within about a minute of each other. How can three competitive channels do this without talking to each other or being told what to cover? I would love to know?

So all the government needs to do is tell the news stations to cover the countries that have opportunities for our UK businesses and show it on the news channels.

Then all 4m businesses in the UK would know where to sell to (rather than promoting where not to sell to) and we would increase the UK GDP, exports and jobs available in the UK. Tell us the positive news, opportunities and stories around the world and we can develop relationships with these countries.

When was the last time we had a positive story about Brazil, Russia, India and China that are the growth economies, which the UK is not currently able to sell to or grow exports to these markets. How can you sell to a country you know nothing about? Our news channels have failed us. They have created a state, which we do not even get told the basis current affairs of the largest growth economies in the world.

It’s that simple. Get the news channels to promote positive stories and opportunities.
